ELDs - Electronic Logbook Devices

Electronic Logbooks or Electronic Logging Devices are for keeping track of hours of service while operating your Truck. The Department of Transportation (DOT) has mandated that electronic hardware be connected to a vehicle's engine to record the operator's driving hours. It includes a screen for the driver, so they can monitor their current status and print all logged driving hours when requested by a DOT.

There are quite a few companies out there that offer this type of service. Here are some ELDs that I suggest you look into.

A.) Motive ELD (Formerly known as KeepTruckin ELD) https://gomotive.com/ These guys have been around for a while. They have a name that is known in the business. But, what is a known name? Coca-Cola is a known name, but that's because they do a lot of marketing. Just because something is heavily marketed doesn't make it good... From what I have heard they have easy-to-use hardware and software and good customer service when you need to talk to a person on the phone. BUT, as of February 2024 they are being sued for "false advertising" and "patent infringement" by a different ELD company called Samsara. Click this link to learn more about the lawsuit. https://www.freightwaves.com/news/tech-battle-samsara-sues-motive-technologies-for-patent-infringement-false-advertising

B.) Samsara ELD (https://www.samsara.com/products/apps-and-workflows) These guys are currently suing Motive ELD, but that doesn't say much. Anyone can be sued for anything. I have also heard very positive things about Samsara. Check out their site and see what you think of their pricing... Again, these ELD companies all do the same thing. If I were you I would be looking at the price and how well their customer service is. Troubleshooting and setting up the technology and having a point of contact to help you if there are issues it's going to be VERY important. Make sure you're not getting an ELD company whose customer service is a call center in a different country. You and I both know that's not what we want when making a purchase.

D.) https://www.omnitracs.com/compliance-eld

E.) https://truckx.com/eld-compliance/

F.) https://www.truckingoffice.com/eld/

In conclusion, all the Carriers I work with give me feedback on what works and what doesn't. Everyone is saying they are very happy with https://gomotive.com/ So, I would recommend you give them a try.
